PCG in the News

Physician Capital Group landed $13.8 million in funding from investor-entrepreneurs Rod Canion, founder of Compaq Computer Corp., and Jack Gill, founder of Vanguard Ventures, a top Silicon Valley venture capital firm.

Co-founder Damon Spiegel created MD Coder, the company's signature handheld wireless device. The MD Coder allows doctors to immediately capture patient charges along with other pertinent data, which is wirelessly transmitted to the company's electronic system.

Damon estimates a practice that bills $650,000 annually loses between $35,000 and $100,000 per year due to denied or reduced reimbursements from insurers, mostly related to incomplete or incorrect claim information.

"No one is doing accounts receivable financing with doctors that I'm aware of because they don't know when the insurance company will pay or the exact amount," he says. "But it's a real need, and I thought the MD Coder might be the missing link to do it."

Co-founder of Physician Capital Group, Terry Giles, says, "We are not the practice's biller and collector, we are their banker."
